This exhibition deals with one of the great icons of culture, reflected in many different ways in major works from a wide range of fields such as literature, painting, philosophy, music, and theology, among others.
The municipal delegate for Culture, Susana Rivas, and the director of the Museum of Chiclana, Jesús Romero, have presented the temporary exhibition 'Ecce Homo', which will be open to the public at the Museum of Chiclana until 30 May. It is an interesting exhibition about one of the great icons of our culture reflected in many different ways, in major works from the most diverse fields such as literature, painting, philosophy, music or theology, among others, from the most pious of the sweet Reni to the most explosive approaches of Nietzsche.

This exhibition also focuses on the development of the theme in Western painting, which for centuries was most influenced by the Judeo-Christian tradition. In the background, it highlights that moment that has remained a part of our tradition in which Pilate, using the expression 'ecce homo', presents Jesus to a people who demand his death. Is this the man, an anthropological proposal? A motif, in any case, incessantly present in our History of Art, to which the apt expression has served as a title.

Thus, this exhibition brings together some thirty paintings (oils on canvas, on panel, on copper) that show the evolution of this almost sub-genre within the broad world of religious painting, from the Gothic period to the present day in originals from the 16th to the 20th century and copies from the 18th to the 21st. Anonymous works and works that refer to leading names such as Joan Gascó, Albrecht Dürer, Guido Reni, Guercino, Elisabetta Sirani, Murillo and Correggio.

Alongside these paintings, a series of pieces, halfway between art and craftsmanship, complete the collection of enamel, sepiolite (seafoam), glass, bronze, etc., including an interesting 19th-century lithophane of exceptional quality. This is a large monographic exhibition on a subject that is difficult to find.  "Today we are inaugurating an exhibition with 30 representative works of Ecce Homo, which shows the great interest of the artists in this image", said the municipal delegate for Culture, who encouraged the public to "enjoy this new exhibition, as there are works that are contextualized from the 15th century, some authentic and others copies". "Thus, until 30 May, the public has the opportunity to contemplate this exhibition, which includes works by renowned artists such as Guido Reni and Murillo", commented Rivas.

For his part, Jesús Romero explained the works are on display from today at the Museum and emphasized that "as with the rest of the temporary exhibitions, this one should be placed in this period of Lent and Holy Week". "It is a very interesting exhibition, which begins with Borja's Ecce Homo and then continues with works by other important artists", commented the director of the Museum of Chiclana, who added, "we have works from the 15th, 17th, 19th, and 20th centuries, both originals and copies".
