There is no nostalgia in Douglas Abdell's work. He does not even look back, he looks inside him. It is not a matter from the past, but the roots. His passion for Phoenician culture, and his commitment with it, means more than sthetic and plastic.
There is an antropological and sociological dimension in his work. An ethical dimension that makes it specially contemporary. The phoenicians were not colonizers, but trader. They did not look for lands, but people with which, in the search of borter of products, they change ideas, habits, beliefs… Sailing the seas, they approached to people, to understand, to know them.
This is all about Douglas work. His authentic work in authentic material (rich shades stone and bronze). Since the first exhibition in Graham Gallery from New York in 1971, he starts to travel the world (Maryland, Connecticut, Kansas, Tennessee, Berlin, Boston, Los Angeles, Rome,Milan…). He came to Spain in 1985 (Barcelona, Zaragoza and Madrid).
