The municipal delegate of Culture, Susana Rivas, and the chronicler of the city, José Luis Aragón Panés, have presented the Guest Piece, which from today is on display at the Museum of Chiclana. Thus, on the occasion of the 212th anniversary of the Battle of Chiclana, which is commemorated on March 5, will be exhibited a sheet of 20 by 30 centimeters of the painting 'May 3 in Madrid', a historical document of the time and twenty cards of Goya paintings related to the War of Independence, which can be visited precisely until the day of the commemoration of the Battle.
Thus, under the title 'Francisco de Goya y Lucientes. Chronicler of the Becoming of a Nation II. The family of Charles IV and courtly life', the Guest Piece focuses on the royal family of Charles IV during the stage of the War of Independence and the Napoleonic newspaper in Chiclana. "Last year, by the hand of José Luis Aragón Panés, we started this reminder of the Battle of Chiclana, on that occasion focused on Joseph Bonaparte, and now in Charles IV and a character like Francisco de Goya, who has helped us to know through his paintings this time," said Susana Rivas, who has indicated that "so people can know the history of this stage of the War of Independence in Chiclana."
For his part, the chronicler of the city has indicated that, "for the second consecutive year, we present the Guest Piece related to this event." "In this new piece, composed of 20 postcards and a historical document of the then called "the revolution in Spain', later the War of Independence, we want to expose the historical situation of the early nineteenth century, in which the whole nation is united to fight against the armies of Napoleon," he said.
"Thus, we can see images of the family of Charles IV painted by Goya, as well as Manuel Godoy, courtiers, generals and characters like Jovellanos of special relevance in this Napoleonic period," said José Luis Aragón Panés, who added that "so we write a page of what in the future, with all these guest pieces, will be a major exhibition to contextualize the Battle of Chiclana and the occupation of the French from February 7, 1810 and August 12, 1812."
