The Museum of Chiclana receives the donation of the book 'Anarchism in Chiclana. Diego Rodríguez Barbosa'.

This is the Japanese edition of the work by José Luis Gutiérrez Molina, published in 2005, which tells the story of the struggle for workers' rights in Chiclana at the beginning of the 20th century.

The Museum of Chiclana has received the donation of the book 'Anarchism in Chiclana. Diego Rodríguez Barbosa', which is the Japanese edition of the work by José Luis Gutiérrez Molina, a work published for the first time in the Library of Chiclana themes, of the Delegation of Culture of the City Council of Chiclana. This edition, which dates from 2005, was formally handed over today to the Museum, specifically to the Delegate for Culture, Susana Rivas, by two of Rodríguez Barbosa's grandchildren, Eugenio and María del Carmen Morano Rodríguez, representing the family of the illustrious Chiclana native, Diego Rodríguez Barbosa.

During the ceremony, Susana Rivas expressed her gratitude for this donation, "which is a bibliographic work that tells the story of a fighter for the defense of workers' rights at that time in Chiclana (early 20th century), such as Diego Rodríguez Barbosa. Precisely because of this defense and this claim, he had a tragic end, in a very sad period in Spain". "We are very pleased to have this work in the Museum, which tells part of the history of Chiclana and of a person who dedicated his life to fighting for others", he pointed out.

For his part, Eugenio Morano Rodríguez explained that "this book talks about my grandfather and many of his comrades in the CNT, who fought for the rights of workers in the fields, the sea, and the salt mines, among others. Our greatest wish is to know where my grandfather is buried, because neither my grandmother, nor his children, nor his grandchildren know where the mass grave is in which he was buried, along with the rest of his comrades".

It should be noted that it was the wish of the Museum of Chiclana to include in its discourse two fundamental figures of the early 20th century, both involved in the defense of the weakest, in this case, the farmworkers, especially those who were dedicated to the cultivation of vines. They are Father Salado and Diego Rodríguez Barbosa, two different profiles united in their common commitment to the dignity of the humble and from the common conviction of the same dignity shared by all human beings.

This presence of Salado and Rodríguez Barbosa in the discursive thread of the Museum's permanent exhibition required, apart from the express mention of them, the presence of pieces related to them in the exhibition spaces, in this case in room six, dedicated to the last century. Three literary works by Diego Rodríguez Barbosa are already on display in the showcases of these rooms. He was a cultivated man, a self-taught man who published several novels during his lifetime, with a talent for literature that he was able to put at the service of the noble cause he defended until his death, which was no stranger to his stubborn and more than pertinent struggle.
