This exhibition, which will be open until June 18, includes more than thirty pieces made with various techniques
The municipal delegate of Culture, Susana Rivas, has inaugurated the exhibition 'Contemporary Engravers', which will be open to the public until June 18 at the Museum of Chiclana, in a ceremony which was also attended by the director of the Museum, Jesus Romero. During the ceremony, the mayor said that "we have a special interest in this exhibition, because we want to make visible all the work that has been done in the world of engraving, which is largely unknown to the public. It will also allow us to make visible the women who make these works, which are very good and varied. We wanted to bring these works for people to enjoy them".
The director of the Museum explained that "engraving was born to disseminate the work of art and is what is least seen. In the 20th century, the world of engraving awakened, which is infinite and inexhaustible. Now we are showing very good pieces, by well-known women in engraving".
It should be remembered that, about a year ago, the Museum offered to the public a wide sample of contemporary engravers that also included the names of some great women engravers as a preview of this new temporary exhibition. This new exhibition vindicates engraving and the role of women in the world of printmaking and, in general, of Art.
Although there are remarkable women engravers in previous centuries whose memory has been saved from oblivion, the 20th century was also the time of hatching in engraving, which is not surprising if we bear in mind what the last century has meant in the awakening, beyond notable specific cases, of the awareness and the struggle of women in the recognition of their rights.
A series of Spanish artists born in the last century, although of different generations, are represented in this exhibition, which is both of their technical mastery and their creative talent. Some of them are well known in the world of art and, in particular, in the inexhaustible world of engraving, whose rich possibilities also unfolded in a special way throughout the 20th century.
More than thirty pieces, with very diverse techniques and procedures, bring the public closer to the work of Amalia Avia, Concha Ibáñez, Montserrat Gudiol, Liliane Lees, Pilar Font, Teresa Duclós, María Asunción Raventós, Elena Jiménez, Cristina Santander, Monique de Roux, Cristina Navarro, Edith Jiménez, among others.
