The mayor of Chiclana, José María Román, has inaugurated the “Animalarivm” exhibition, featuring illustrations by Javier Palacios depicting the wildlife of the Pinar de La Barrosa. Also present at the event were the Culture Delegate, Susana Rivas, and the artist himself, Javier Palacios.
In this regard, it should be noted that Javier Palacios created these illustrations for a book on the wildlife inhabiting the Pinar de La Barrosa. He has donated these illustrations to the city of Chiclana; they are currently in the collection of the Chiclana Museum and are now on display in an exhibition that will remain open until 30 August.
“Javier is someone who can see the richness of the Pinar de La Barrosa—first in its vegetation and then in its wildlife—which has led to this exhibition we’re opening today at the museum,” said the mayor, who emphasized that “many people go to the pine forest and only notice the pine trees, but there are many other species and a very rich animal life there. Thus, this exhibition helps people grow to love the pine forest even more.”
For his part, Javier Palacios thanked the mayor for “showing an interest in this project on the flora and fauna of the pine forest.” “I’ve enjoyed this project in three different phases: when I drew the illustrations, when the book was published, and now with the installation at the museum,” said the exhibition’s creator, who noted that “some of the animals featured in the exhibition are very difficult to spot in their natural habitat due to their tiny size.”
With the “Animalarivm” exhibition, the Chiclana Museum has reached the halfway point of its 2026 exhibition program, which centers on the 150th anniversary of Chiclana being granted city status.
