Today we unveiled a new ‘Piece of the Month’ to coincide with World Book Day. On this occasion, the chosen work is Los amores de un loco, a Chiclana edition printed in 1850, which is now 176 years old and stands out for its unique bibliographic and heritage value. The presentation was attended by the municipal delegate for Culture, Susana Rivas, as well as Miguel González, the donor of this valuable copy, which from today can be viewed on public display at the museum.
It is a work by the French novelist Xavier de Montépin, translated into Spanish and printed in Chiclana at Manuel Lozano’s printing house, located on Calle de la Vega. The volume also possesses a particularly interesting feature, as it brings together in a single volume the three volumes in which this work was originally published in the town. With this new ‘Item of the Month’, we wish to highlight not only a 19th-century literary work, but also a testament to the town’s cultural history, its connection to the world of books, and the activity of its former printing presses.
The choice of this item on such a significant date as World Book Day further reinforces the museum’s role as a space for the conservation, dissemination and understanding of Chiclana’s historical and cultural heritage.
