The Museum of Chiclana welcomes until next November 24 the exhibition 'Music through the eyes. Art and rock'. This has been announced by the municipal delegate of Culture, Susana Rivas, the director of the Museum of Chiclana, Jesus Romero, and the person who had the idea, Paco Lopez. This sample will be the first installment of a series of exhibitions focused on the close link between music and the visual arts that the record covers highlight.
Now it is almost forgotten that for a long time music circulated through material, physical, tangible and visible supports. And that the records, in order to attract attention in the shop windows, wore beautiful covers in which top designers and renowned artists collaborated. This is the subject of this exhibition that the Museum of Chiclana now offers.
In this first installment, this way of looking at music with different eyes starts with rock. Alongside fundamental works of national and foreign rock music, works by first-class plastic artists. Thus, the legendary names of Elton John, Rolling Stones, Jethro Tull, Rod Stewart, Imán, Triana or Miguel Ríos are joined by the names of the authors of album cover illustrations that everyone has in their memory, such as Peter Lloyd, Alan Aldrige, Guy Peellaert, Máximo Moreno, Carlos Creus or Julián Molero, among others.
Music through the eyes. Art and Rock' is a visual journey through great works of music through the creations of great artists, who turned the covers of those albums into works of art. Many people have paintings on their walls at home, but there are also other hidden works of art, perhaps better than the ones in sight, which are not given their importance because they are part of the cover of a record. With the advent of CD, DVD and other formats, vinyl records have passed to a worse life, being abandoned in any corner of the house, given away or thrown in the dumpster.
“In this new temporary exhibition, the story and art are found directly on the covers of the music albums that have always been around and are now returning,” said Susana Rivas, who pointed out that ‘the covers not only had the function of wrapping the musical work, but they were also artistic samples’.
“Invite citizens to come to the Museum to enjoy this exhibition, which we will have until November 24,” he said.
For his part, Paco Lopez has indicated that “the idea of this exhibition came to me seeing the last exhibition on the hidden museums of Antonio Marin and Maria Aguilar.”“I have at home about a thousand records and I have not seen that there were exhibitions on the covers, which were authentic works of art drawn by great artists,” said the head of the exhibition, who thanked the Museum of Chiclana welcome the proposal to carry out this exhibition.
