THE MUSEUM HOSTS THE EXHIBITION 'A LIFE, A WORK. DISCOVERING THE WORLD OF LORENZO CHERBUY'

Friday, May 3, 2024 - 14:16
The exhibition, which consists of nearly a hundred works of the artist from Cadiz who died in 2010, can be visited until 7 July

The municipal delegate of Culture, Susana Rivas, has inaugurated the exhibition 'A life, a work. Discovering the world of Lorenzo Cherbuy', at the Museum of Chiclana. An act in which have also been present relatives of Lorenzo Cherbuy, as well as the director of the Museum of the city, Jesus Romero.
Behind this interesting exhibition -large, even if we forget the prolific author-, you can see the affection of a family that has been careful to preserve the pieces with care for years and the firm will of this, as well as the same Delegation of Culture of Chiclana, in spreading his legacy. Thus, 'A life, a work. Discovering the world of Lorenzo Cherbuy' faces the task of bringing to the public the look of one of the most recognizable and at the same time forgotten authors of the twentieth century.

That is why the Museum of Chiclana wants to vindicate his contribution to art and culture in general of this complete figure -painter, sculptor, stage designer, musician, who approached the literature and was immersed in the cultural movements of the province, as well shows his participation in the magazines Platero and El Parnaso - through this exhibition. An extensive and striking work that has been relegated to oblivion and now wants to occupy the place it deserves in the history of art and culture of Cadiz.
“We are talking about a great artist, who has been largely unknown to most citizens. In addition, we are talking about a multifaceted artist, who was also linked to the world of literature and the 'Generation of the Plateros',” said Susana Rivas, who has indicated that ‘the exhibition will not leave anyone indifferent, so we invite citizens to visit the exhibition.’
For his part, Carlos Cherbuy has thanked the City Council of Chiclana “the reception it has had to the posthumous exhibition of my father.” “We are pleasantly surprised by the magnificent exhibition that the Museum technicians have mounted,” said the artist's son.

Also, José Pecci Cherbuy stressed that “today is an exciting day and we want to thank the city of Chiclana and its City Council interest in exhibiting this exhibition of my grandfather.” “It is the first exhibition after his death and here is represented what he wanted to tell the world,” he said.
It should be noted that the exhibition has almost a hundred works by Cherbuy -paintings, sculptures, drawings, in which the procedural boundaries are often diluted- which are joined by dozens of documents and reflections that immerse us in his world, also in the always restless inner world of this author, who died in 2010 at the age of 89.
