The exhibition, which can be visited until September 3, wants to testify to the commemorative events of the Bicentennial, which were held in Chiclana throughout 2013

The municipal delegate of Culture, Susana Rivas, and the director of the Museum of Chiclana, Jesus Romero, today opened the exhibition '2013+10. Commemoration of commemorations', on the occasion of the 210th anniversary of the birth of Antonio García Gutiérrez, which can be visited until September 3. In this regard, remember that years ago the Delegation of Culture made a public commitment to García Gutiérrez and Romanticism, each year, around July 5, the birth of the author.  This commitment is maintained in the Museum of Chiclana since then fulfilling with constancy and punctuality, annually dedicating to the poet a temporary exhibition of monographic character, either focused on the life and work of the illustrious Chiclana, and in his time or the movement to which he remained faithful.
"For us today is an important day and for the Chiclana culture in general," said the delegate, recalling that, "in 2013, important facets of García Gutiérrez were highlighted, because he was recognized for his work internationally. For all that this illustrious Chiclana I want to invite all citizens to enjoy this exhibition, because we are paying tribute to a very versatile person, who reached the Royal Academy of Language ".

Thus, this year, in addition to another exhibition on the historical characters present in the dramas of the writer, which will take place in the fall, the commemoration of the birth of García Gutiérrez is entitled '2013+10', a title that refers to the Bicentennial of the poet that we celebrated in Chiclana ten years ago and marked a milestone in the knowledge of it.
"Antonio García Gutiérrez, top of the Spanish Romantic theater, was already in life object of various recognitions, from that first long, thunderous applause with which those attending the first performance of 'The Troubadour' at the Teatro del Príncipe asked, for the first time in Spain, the exit to the stage of the author of the play premiered," said Jesús Romero.
And in Chiclana, his homeland, he has been recognized and continues to be recognized. Thus, a bust of him in the street, specifically in the Plaza Patiño, next to his birthplace, as well as a sculpture of a troubadour recalls his literary glory. The old Comedias Street has also been named after García Gutiérrez for many years. And, on the other hand, the Municipal Public Library as well as the first High School that Chiclana had also bear his name, as have been a bookstore or various literary competitions, or that of his most widespread work has given name to a magazine and a newspaper.

In 1984, Chiclana commemorated the centenary of the death of its poet in several unforgettable days. Tierno Galván, Fernando Quiñones, Rafael Alberti and Antonio Gala, among others, gathered here to pay tribute to him: commemorative plaques, poetry readings, conferences, etc... And in line with that event, the Diputación de Cádiz took care of the facsimile reprinting of his Obras selectas. In addition, Paz Martín dedicated a monographic work to him in 2005 that allowed us to delve a little deeper into his life and work.
But it was not until 2013 when, through the program prepared by the Delegation of Culture to celebrate throughout the year the Bicentenary of the birth of Antonio García Gutiérrez, we discovered, more than ever before, García Gutiérrez poet, playwright and academician of the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language; but also a man who transcended in his time the limits of the strictly literary. We were able to learn about all this in 2013, when, among many other interesting initiatives, 'Il trovatore' -the opera by Verdi inspired by 'The Troubadour'- was brought to the Plaza Mayor. And there were more musical and theatrical events, as well as a very complete exhibition on the poet that showed us his various profiles. Thus, this exhibition, which now commemorates that anniversary, bears witness to that wide-ranging and varied program.
