Donated to the Museum

Saturday, May 21, 2016 - 12:59

A portrait of Frasquita Larrea, painted by the local artist Francisco José Cabillas, has been donated to the Museum. The delegate of Cultura Pepa Vela, the director of the Museum, Jesús Romero and the author of the work, Francisco José Cabillas, attended the media just in the place where, from now on, will be exposed this portrait.

It should be recorded that Frasquita Larrea (Cádiz 1775-Puerto de Santa María 1838), lived the most of her time in Chiclana, where she was influenced by the romantic Germans and the feminist thought of Mary Wollstonecraft.

She contributed to Romanticism a significant number of epistolary pieces, some small proses or letters about her personal memories.

She also founded her famous literary and political social gathering, which became in the centre of the progressive Romanticism in the south against the conservative Catalan Romanticism.

Frasquita Larrea was married to Nicolás Bölh de Faber, with whom she was her daughter Cecilia, also known as “Fernán Caballero” with which she signed her great literary work.
